Raquel Blake Says It’s All About Togetherness.
This New England native has launched into full Diva performer, and we’ve been along for the ride. We are so pleased that she will be joining the all-star lineup on July 17th at Rose Room.
Ms. Blake took some time to answer a few questions we had about the event, the tragedy, and what community means to her.
(DragStarDiva) A couple of weeks have gone by since the shooting at Pulse. What do you think could be done to prevent this from happening again in a different LGBT establishment?
(RaquelBlake) Gun control defiantly. Training security for signs of suspicion. [And she is not alone. Many people inside (and outside) of the LGBT community believe that we need stronger gun control laws.]
(DSD) Have you ever experience harassment in or out of drag? Explain your experience and how you were able to overcome, “haters.”
(RaquelBlake) Yes. Growing up in a small town I was constantly harassed. It gave me thick skin. Drag gave me thicker skin. Almost like body armor.
(DSD) What do you hope comes out of this tragedy?
(RaquelBlake) Togetherness. We are all human and need to love one another. [Can we “get an amen?“]
(DSD) What does the July 17th benefit show mean to you?
(RaquelBlake) It means our community coming together. The sisterhood of drag. WE ARE 1 Family.
Keep an eye out for an exclusive tell-all sit down with the amazing Raquel Blake coming soon on Drag Star Diva.
